Muslims fear backlash -- again

British Muslims Worry About Backlash

Angry words, graffiti -- will the horror never stop for the poor persecuted Mohammedans?

The irony of these cultists complaining about insults or graffiti while their fellow cult members are trying to commit mass murder is just getting to be too much.

Do they not see the ridiculousness of their cries of victimhood? If they really are peaceful, moderate, and law-abiding, why don't they, just once, try to clean house and deal with their violent brethren, those guys who have supposedly 'hijacked' their nice, mild, peaceful religion. Why don't they do what the heroic Americans on hijacked Flight 93, did? Why not, if the 'moderates' are the majority, unite and take out the 'hijackers' who have perverted Islam? There is strength in numbers -- if the 'moderate Moslems' are supposedly the majority.

It's so often said, quoting Edmund Burke, that the only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing. Well, that saying always bothers me a little. Much as I admire Burke, I think that saying is troubling. It implies that a good man could conceivably do nothing in the face of evil. I tend to think that a truly good man (or woman) would not remain silent and inactive while evil works its will. A truly good man or woman is actively good, not passive. Those who truly love goodness and truth will not acquiesce while evil is active; those who truly are good and 'moderate' people will roll up their sleeves and do what they have to do to stop and thwart evil. Anybody who sits on their hands while evil runs rampant is not good, but is cowardly or simply passively evil, complicit in it.

And yes, some people will excuse the supposed 'moderate' Moslems by saying 'oh, but they're afraid to resist the bad guys; they fear for their lives.' First, in Western countries there is no need to fear for their lives; if they truly do fear, they could seek protection from authorities. And if they do nothing, aren't they also at risk from terror attacks by their fellow Moslems? Weren't there some Moslems on those subways and buses which were bombed on 7/7? Or in the World Trade Center on 9/11? Doing nothing to stop their violent brethren also puts them at risk, if they live in infidel countries. So there is no excuse based on 'fear.' If they do nothing, they are either morally lazy or cowardly. And cowardice is not a quality of good people; not for nothing does the Bible tell us that the 'fearful' will not enter the kingdom of heaven. Fearful people are often those who will silently give consent to evil because they don't want to have to stand up to it, or take any risks to stop evil.

So I have to take issue with Burke: for the good man, Moslem or otherwise, doing nothing in the face of evil is not an option.

Backlashes, even those consisting of rude words and scrawled graffiti, would not happen without the terror attacks to provoke them. So dealing with the 'root causes' of backlashes would be a good choice.
