I see that the Wall Street Journal article I blogged about yesterday is being discussed here.
The discussion, although it is taking place at a supposedly 'racially aware' forum, seems to follow the pattern seen at the usual mainstream Republican gathering places. Is there really so little awareness out there?
As an example, scroll down through the comments and you will see the idea expressed several times that the races are all mixed to some extent. One person even makes the bizarre claim that if you are not 100 percent pure Welsh, you are likely racially mixed:
...I don’t have the source, but I’ve read that no European can claim with certainty that he doesn’t have a drop of Asian, Arab, etc. blood unless he is Welsh with a Welsh surname, and with only Welsh surnames in the ancestral tree. (Britain proper had been occupied by Romans, in whose army were occasionally found Asiatics and other nonwhites from the fringes of the empire.)
Somewhere long ago I had also read that the Swiss Lake Dwellers had Asian features. Anyone know about this, and to what extent they may be the (great)**N grandfathers of us “Alpine types” here?
Wonder if there exist enough “White persons” by 8:19PM’s definition to even form a viable country, anywhere. ''
Does this person believe what he is saying? Is this ignorance, or a desire to further obfuscate the question? Several other people assert slightly less extreme versions of this idea that we are all just a muddled mix of races.
This one represents another extreme viewpoint but one that is heard fairly frequently:
I’m white. My mom is probably of 50% English and 50% German stock, going back as far as we can tell (to the revolutionary period in the US). My dad’s mom was Scots-English, and my dad’s dad was part European: French,Italian, maybe others, and part Semitic…Arabic and/or Hebrew, who really knows? (the names and bloodlines blur between many Arabs and Hebrews).. He was a devout christian, thoroughly Western and cosmopolitan, with truly stratospheric intelligence, the highest possible education, and of a very high professional status in Europe and the USA. He was of course an American citizen.
My dad was raised an American, no ifs ands or buts. He is a WWII vet, and fought around the globe. He fought the Nazis, and Tojo.
I have blue eyes and sandy brown hair, with average caucasian skin tone. I’d have to tell you about my heritage for you to see traces of anything other than Northern European in me.
Just the chance play of genetics…my other siblings have black hair and brown eyes.
So: is such a person WHITE? If so, or not, why?''
Others assert that one drop of any race other than Caucasian makes one non-white.
This person says that
This one-drop rule is idiocy. By that definition, almost nobody on this planet could be classified as white.''
That's the kind of thing I find exasperating, that last sentence, because it presupposes that everybody, but everybody, has some kind of genes from various races. How, exactly, was all this cross-racial mating done in times when the majority of people on the planet did not stray 20 miles from their birthplace? When travel was arduous and dangerous? We read of the accounts of early European explorers who were astounded at their first sight of many of the 'exotic' races, and yet we are to believe that everybody had already met, mixed, and mated together? How is that supposed to have worked?
Whoever started this urban legend that we all represent a random mix of races did a masterful job of spreading the idea, and people have apparently eaten it up, and accept it as gospel truth.
Or is it that the people spreading these ideas on forums like the one linked are liberal trolls and brainwashers, posing as race realists? I wouldn't doubt that, but I also don't underestimate the average person's gullibility and susceptibility to these myths.
I often wonder about these genetic testing companies who are now marketing their services, telling us that they can determine our ancestry via DNA. We've heard about how James Watson was supposedly found to have 16 percent 'Sub-Saharan African' DNA, which seems to make absolutely no sense, considering his known ancestry, not to mention his appearance. There are some doubts being cast on the reliability of these tests and I think we should be skeptical, especially when the issue of race is so politicized these days. I don't doubt that many multiculturalists and anti-white types would seize on any indication of nonwhite ancestry among whites and use that as another bludgeon with which to beat us senseless and convince us that we really are one big mixed-n-matched, blurry mass of humanity.
The multiculturalists and 'world citizens' will really stop at nothing when it comes to pressing their agenda. Another way in which they spread these strange beliefs is through popular culture. I am sure most of you have noticed the infuriating trend in today's movies and TV programs to introduce nonwhite characters where they could not logically be. For example, putting Morgan Freeman into the Robin Hood story, or in the later BBC version, show us a Moslem-friendly Robin Hood.
Consider these plot additions:
1. One of Robin Hood's band of men was a Muslim woman.
2. A Muslim prince was imprisoned in the Sheriff of Nottingham's dungeon. Unknown reason.
3. Robin Hood and his men went to rescue the Muslim prince.
4. Six Muslim females, who were skilled sword-fighters disguised as dancers wanted to kill the Muslim prince.
5. Robin Hood and his men fought the highly trained Muslim female fighters and won.
6. The rescued Muslim prince gave thanks to Allah a couple of times. For saving him.
7. A 'returned' injured English Crusades soldier was treated with a medical potion by the Muslim female of Robin's gang.
8. Robin's band of backward peasants were terrified at the sight of a Muslim black head-mask. It was pierced with long needles.
9. The rescued Muslim prince placed it on the wounded Crusader's head. He then used the needles for acupuncture treatment.
10. The Muslim prince stated his desire for peace between the Crusaders and the Saracens then trotted off into the forest. Sherwood Forest!''
This predilection for rewriting history to make it more multicultural and 'inclusive' is surely part of the agenda to convince us that 'diversity' is the normal state of things, and that in fact, all Western countries were really mixed and 'diverse' in the past. It seems the logical next step is to have most people believing that gosh, there really must not be a 'White race' because England was always full of Mohammedans and blackamoors. I've already read that some people claim The Black Prince in English history was, in fact, a black prince.
And of course our visions of the 'future', as presented on the Sci-fi Channel and via Hollywood, are all not only multiracially diverse, but diverse with alien races as well. It all started with the original Star Trek series. So the future promises a further blurring of our identities, while the past is being erased and overwrittten to cause us to doubt our own history and hence to doubt who we are.
So when even the 'realists' at AR are buying the idea that it's all just one big mixed-up, amorphous family, we are in trouble.
