Appealing to liberalism

Is this sort of thing going to help the ''nationalist cause'', or help recruit women to the effort? Yes, it may appeal to some, but will it be the ''right'' women?

This kind of approach has been used for some time by the counterjihadists. Their argument is often based on how bad Islam is for gays, women, and those who enjoy a libertine lifestyle. The emphasis is placed on how homophobic Islam is, or how 'misogynistic' Moslems are. I won't contest the assertion that they are anti-female, though I'm loath to use the word 'misogynist' because it is one of those favored lefty shibboleths, and to be honest, I never heard the word used before the feminists came out with (rhetorical) guns blazing in the 1970s.

Here's an example of a similar approach being used by a gay activist, who makes no secret of the fact that he loathes Christianity, but has found that as bad as he believes Christianity with its ''homophobia'' to be, Islam is even worse. The message is that we have to save the West from Islam (or Islamists, as many counterjihadists gingerly put it) so that people can be free to flaunt their sexuality publicly and to demand official governmental approval of it, as well as the blessing of the Church and the average Jane and Joe. The Vlaams Belang approach to attracting female support is much the same: you won't be allowed to flaunt your body publicly, or to engage in sexual libertinism, if Islam prevails. Which is true, certainly, but is that the most important thing that is at stake?

The fact is, the appeal here is to liberals, specifically feminist women. And the arguments made are liberal ones.

We've seen how the counterjihadist movement is essentially a liberal one. And some, like many of the AmRen commenters, think we need to court lefties and feminists. The more the merrier, goes the thinking. I disagree. Once a movement is dominated by lefty-liberals, there is no tolerance for anyone to their right. Anybody who does not toe the PC/multiculturalist liberal line on Islam and ''women's issues'' will be denounced as a fascist/racist/misogynist, and will be anathema.

Liberals, leftists, progressives, or whatever name we call them, have proven themselves to be filled with greater animus towards those who do not share their ideology, and they are more likely to side with Islam against their own, as they consistently do. There are those few who oppose Islam on liberal grounds, but they are not friends to ethnonationalism. They may be temporary allies, though uneasy ones at that. But they are not on our side, truly. They care only about preserving their ''rights'' and individualistic liberties (read: license).

The women who are likely to be real assets to the ethnonationalist cause are not the sort of women who are motivated by ethnoloyalty.  They are loyal to their ideology and to themselves. Only.

There are better ways to appeal to women -- and it may be that it isn't even necessary to win over most women or the 'average' woman, any more than it is necessary to win over a majority of the people in our countries.
