To all those 'conservatives' who are up on their high horses condemning not only John Derbyshire, but anyone who remotely agrees with him, or defends his right to speak truth: defend yourselves and your 'conservatism', or else drop the label and call yourselves something more appropriate.
How does it come to be that the 'conservative' of today takes an entirely opposite view on certain vital matters to those held by his parents, grandparents and the generations before them?
I think many of these 'conservatives', the ones calling Internet commenters 'the scum of the earth' are superannuated 'adultlescents'. For them history did not begin until the first Bush administration, circa 1988, hence they don't remember what happened when the sainted 'Father of our Country', MLK, was nominated to have a national holiday in his honor.
The fact is, many Republicans resisted that idea, and did so vociferously. If you are old enough, and have read something besides politically corrected 'history', you will know that to be true, though the story is being sent down the PC memory hole. Ronald Reagan himself, at first, objected, as did some Republicans in Congress. The latter-day fawning over MLK, the excessive adulation devoted to 'black conservatives', this is all relatively recent history. The wholesale adoption of the liberal views on such things is a very recent phenomenon. And now we have Glenn Beck honoring the 'black Founding Fathers.' What?
The Civil Rights era did constitute a social revolution. The conservatives of earlier generations, imperfect though they were, realized that. They remembered a time when the dominant attitudes on racial issues were ones that have since become all but outlawed, made thought-crimes. Once, conservatives did not try to distance themselves from 'old America' on racial matters, and did not feel compelled to look down on their parents and grandparents' ideas and beliefs and life choices. Nowadays, those who call themselves 'conservatives' are embracing ideas that, even within my lifetime were once considered 'radical' and have proven to be revolutionary ideas. And espousing these once-fringe ideas is ''conservative'' in what sense?
Nobody with any knowledge of history can deny that our society was turned upside down, starting during the mid-50s and continuing in earnest to this day. How is it that today's conservatives would not be recognized as such by their parents or grandparents? Unless your elders were all closet Communists, they did not hold politically correct ideas about race. Their views were likely to have been more similar, whether they came from the North or the South, to the so-called ''far right'' than to those of the weak-as-water, PC Republicans of today. The Republicans have veered sharply to the left, as has what we laughingly call 'conservatism.'
How is it that a conservative can reject the ways and the thoughts of previous generations, while embracing the radical innovations (anti-White policies like AA, educational follies like 'No Child Left Behind', gay marriage, women in the military, pro-abortion, etc.) of the counterculture?
Justify yourselves, ''conservatives.'' You can't, without distancing yourself from your ancestors and from the very Founders of this country, whom you claim to revere.
Can it be that right and wrong change with the fashion of the time? Do principles change with the seasons? Are we wiser than those who came before us, and who unquestionably lived in a more civilized, safer America -- an America scarcely recognizable today?
Those people you 'respectables' call 'scum of the earth' are truer to America as it originally was than you and your 'me-too' "conservatives", who do nothing but trail along obediently behind the far left. You are nothing but the little shadow that goes in and out with the Left, echoing everything they say, following their lead in all matters concerning race and other social issues, always modeling yourselves after all that they say and do.
The fact that you may differ with them on fiscal matters is hardly worth remarking on.
There are pressing, urgent social issues facing America and our people now, and you refuse to let honest people speak their honest thoughts and feelings on those issues, instead choosing the Left's tactics of name-calling, scorn, ridicule, and threats of excommunication. You choose to call names, and shut down any real discussion, just as your soulmates on the left do. See the following, in regard to conservatives 'unfairly' accused of 'racism'
''My challenge to conservatives who feel they get a bum rap on race is this. Stand up for yourself and your colleagues when you feel that a criticism is unfair. At the same time, criticize other conservatives who say racist things, cynically tolerate racism in the Republican base, or deny the mere existence of racial issues in America today. The conservative movement desperately needs self-policing on racial issues, if it ever hopes to have credibility on them.''
[Emphasis mine above].
So the answer, apparently, is for the 'right' to follow the left's example and 'police' people who stray outside the bounds dictated by both the PC 'right' and the left. That tells the story. Go ahead and 'police' -- and be called out on it, shown for the little PC tyrants that you are, like your leftist friends.
Monkey see, monkey do.
What exactly are you conserving, you 'conservative' scribes and pharisees, hypocrites? Your bank accounts? Your jobs, where you are made to toe the party line, and do so obediently? Your social status? Your invitations to the right parties?
Perhaps some of you are not hypocrites, and fully believe in the egalitarian, multicultural agenda, of which you see yourselves as protectors and keepers. Perhaps some of you are lefties who are knowingly subverting what little is left of 'conservatism' in America by leading it ever leftward, toward the aim of demolishing what is left of the old America, the America you evidently despise. The old America was populated mostly by what you now deem 'the scum of the earth', like it or not.
The 'conservatives' who write in the 'mainstream' media, who are so proud of being 'professionals', unlike the rabble who merely blog or write internet comments, are conservers of nothing, but rather partners in the destruction of free thought and free speech, enemies of the truth, architects of the 'empire of lies' to borrow Ron Paul's phrase.
I hope that my fellow 'scum of the earth' finally see that mainstream 'conservatives', whether media 'personalities' like Limbaugh, Hannity, O'Reilly, or the 'intellectuals' who write for certain online publications, are not on our side, not remotely. Nor are the party hacks, the professional politicians. I think none of the politicians are on our side, or none of whom I am aware.
I have to include Ron Paul, too, in that blanket statement. What would he have to say about these pressing, urgent issues? Lately he has talked about 'racism' in our justice system -- and he's right, but the racism is on the other foot. Or perhaps he would tell us again that illegal aliens are like the Jews in Nazi Germany. He, too, plays the PC game by the established rules, and he too wants to distance himself from the 'scum of the earth', many of whom supported him, and still support him.
How long will we foolish people support those who look down their noses at us for our 'old American' attitudes, those who think they are our intellectual or moral betters, those who would sell us out for the sake of preserving their place under the PC regime in which we live? How long will we donate money, energy, verbal and moral support, to people who will not support us, who will not speak one word in our defense, and will certainly not have our backs when the chips are down?
How long will it be before we learn to sort out those who are of us, those who will stand with us, as opposed to those who are false friends and judas goats?
The lines are being drawn.
The other side, full of pride and self-righteousness, thinks we are the bad guys, and they are on the 'side of the angels.'
But you can't spit on your constituents or your readers or your neighbors and still expect favor from them.
The whole left-right model of things, as many people on our side have said, is becoming irrelevant. You are either of us, and on the side of 'old America', or you are an enemy to us, and it seems the pretense is being dropped. Good. Let's see who is who.
Friend or foe? It has to be one or the other.
